How to Pay Attention to your Everyday Life to help realise the Ultimate Truth!

September 17 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

“How to pay attention to your everyday life to help realise the Ultimate Truth” – with Lama Karma Wangmo

We are very happy to be hosting Lama Karma Wangmo at our weekly meditation and reflection evening again on Tuesday 17th September, 8-10pm at Rochester’s Quaker Meeting House.

The topic for the evening’s reflection and meditation –

Lama Wangmo will explain what in Buddhism are called the “Two Truths”. The relative truth refers to our perception of our self and the world in which we live and the ultimate truth refers to the way we and all phenomena actually exist beyond appearances. Without a clear understanding of these two truths and how they relate to each other, it is all too easy for a spiritual practitioner to get caught up and stuck in the relative appearances without the perspective the ultimate truth provides. Towards the other extreme it can be just as easy for some to get lost in the perspective of the ultimate view, ignoring the important details of everyday life, sometimes referred to as spiritual bypassing. Therefore an understanding of these two truths is essential for a balanced and sustainable progression along the spiritual path.

What’s more the realisation of the ultimate truth which brings freedom from all suffering and dissatisfaction, is arrived at on the path of practice by our relative self correctly engaging with the relative truth and everyday reality (within the perspective of the ultimate view) and not by denying it. Lama Wangmo will give some examples and preliminary instructions on this approach.

“Although my view is higher than the sky, my respect for the cause and effect of actions is as fine as grains of flour.” ~ Guru Rinpoche, Padmasambahva

“Nothing is real. In the absolute, everything is equally empty, transparent, nothing happens. In the relative, each karmic act accounts.” ~ 16th Karmapa

Lama Karma Wangmo
Lama Wangmo first met His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa in 2000, shortly after his escape from Tibet and arrival in India. Since then she has been studying and practising Buddhism under the guidance of Kenting Tai Situpa Rinpoche, who she received her monastic vows from in 2006. Between 2006 and 2010 she completed the traditional three year retreat at the Bodhicharya Meditation Centre in Sikkim, India, under the guidance of Ringu Tulku Rinpoche. After completing the retreat, Tai Situ Rinpoche appointed her as the resident Lama of Palpung Ješa Čöling in Slovenia, which also has a group in Padua, Italy. In 2014, Ringu Tulku Rinpoche named Lama Wangmo the Slovenian representative of Karmapa Foundation Europe. When not teaching in Europe, Lama Wangmo can often be found on retreat at Sherabling Monastery in India.

Lama Wangmo has been visiting Bodhicharya Kent since 2015 and has since given many teachings including running day retreats for us.
