Bodhicharya Kent – Meditation Evening

June 4, 2019 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

ON THE FIRST TUESDAY OF THE MONTH

If you are relatively new to meditation and/or interested in finding out more about Buddhism, then this is a good place to start. The evening will provide an overview of the Buddhist perspective on life, including guided meditation sessions. We may watch a video and/or read from a book and then reflect on the teaching together. The general advice for attending these evenings is to come with an open, curious yet sceptical mind and take what you find to be useful and relevant to you in your life.

EVERY TUESDAY (other than the first Tuesday of the month)

We meet for longer meditation sessions plus follow and discuss a related topic from a book or a video by Ringu Tulku Rinpoche or other teachers.

Over the coming weeks we will continue with Shiné Meditation (Calm Abiding) and Metta Meditation (Loving-Kindness) instructions and practice for all those who would like to learn or deepen their meditation practice and bring its many benefits into daily life.

We will be reading through a book by Ringu Tulku on Journey From Head to Heart (Along a Buddhist Path). This volume of the Heart Wisdom Series, presents 37 short teachings, designed to be read individually and integrated with our practice and daily life. Together they take us on a journey through the vehicles of Buddhism, elucidating some common misunderstandings and basic principles of the Buddhist path, all the while encouraging us to move from our head (intellectual understanding) towards our heart (experiential understanding).

“To get an experiential understanding you have to go deep into yourself and learn how to bring your awareness and mindfulness to the place from which you deeply experience. It is a matter of ‘heart’ rather than ‘head’. Sometimes it is said that the longest journey is from your head to your heart. Which is what we mean when we talk about developing the right view and understanding it experientially. This is an on going process.” ~ Ringu Tulku Rinpoche

The group is made up of the participants so active engagement, questions, reflections and discussion are welcome, however, if you prefer to just sit back, listen, reflect and take it in, then feel free. There are comfortable chairs and meditation cushions available.
